County Louth is known as 'the Wee County' - the smallest in Leinster. The art of distillation in the county is anything but small though, with whiskey production happening in Listoke, Cooley and The Great Northern Distillery.

Louth Whiskey Society hosts regular tastings throughout Louth to enjoy, celebrate and learn about our native spirit. Founded by Lorcan Dunne, the Louth Whiskey Society team also includes Robert Johnson and Sean Keegan. The purpose of the society is to open the world of whiskey to fellow whiskey-lovers who share their passion of the amber liquid with tastings and whiskey events in the region.

It can be easier to learn what you like and dislike by comparing whiskey samples side by side. Tasting whiskey here and there, unless you are an aficionado, fragments the experience. Trying whiskey in a tasting setting, rather than one by one is a great way to sharpen your palate, compare samples directly, and have some criac with fellow Irish whiskey fans.

The goal of tasting whiskey is to enjoy the spirit in a way that is meaningful to you; that might be learning about the history, exploring different flavour profiles, trying a rare whiskey or comparing a series of drams to figure out which bottles to add to your collection.

At the society events you will find many different people with varying levels of whiskey knowledge and experience, we pride ourselves on creating fun, educational experiences. All our members were once complete novices to the world of whiskey.

So whether you’re a seasoned aficionado, or enjoy the occasional drop, we’d like to offer you a big céad míle fáilte to the Louth Whiskey Society. Sláinte!
